Over the years many of our projects have been funded by grants from The Rotary Foundation. The Foundation transforms gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. Rotarian Arch Klumph’s idea for an endowment fund dedicated to “doing good in the world” planted the seed of The Rotary Foundation in 1917. In the last 100+ years The Rotary Foundation has spent more than $US4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects. The Foundation is organised as a public charity operated exclusively for charitable purposes and governed by a Board of Trustees.
Why should we care? The funding to support Polio+, District, Global and Disaster Relief Grants comes from The Rotary Foundation. In the year ending June 2023 this totalled some $US280 million. The Foundation is also exceedingly well managed. For the 13th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating of four stars from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the United States. In fact, 88% of the funds received are spent on Program Awards and Operations.
Rotarian’s donations plus investment returns provide the funds. Rotary International encourages all Rotarians to support The Rotary Foundation by making an annual donation of at least the equivalent of US$100 per year to The Foundation. Rotary Foundation Australia is one of eleven affiliate bodies around the globe. Rotary Foundation Australia enables people and organisations in Australia to make contributions that are tax deductible in Australia.
