About Rotary

Rotary began on the cold winter evening of 23 February 1905 when at the instigation of lawyer Paul Percy Harris, four men of different occupations met in the small upstairs office of a mining engineer in the Unity Building in Chicago.  Paul Harris’ initial vision was for a club to provide friendship and mutual support but this later developed into a philanthropic organisation.

Today. Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision.  Rotary’s people of action use their passion, energy, and know-how to take action on sustainable projects.  From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to make things better.

The heart of Rotary is the Rotary Club.  The Rotary Club of Beaumaris is one of 46,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide.  Rotary and Rotaract clubs unite dedicated men and women to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action.

Our members are people who share a passion for community service and friendship.  We get together to share ideas, make plans, hear from the community and to design club projects that deliver the impact we look to make.  We also value friendships and having fun while we render service throughout or community and beyond.

Rotary is a non-political, non-religious humanitarian organization, with each Rotary club using its judgment in conducting its meetings to suit the needs of its members and in a manner that reflects Rotary’s principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
